Pupa is the stage between the caterpillar and the butterfly- it will take anywhere from 5-10 days for a butterfly to emerge from the pupa. Also known as the chrysalis, and commonly mistaken for a cocoon (which only applies to moths.) Each pupa has a unique look and will take its own time to emerge, depending on what species of butterfly it is.
